Colonel's Bicycles

So my daughter has been saving up to get a bicycle basket. She has learned how to mow, and I'm very happy to pay her to mow. She found a bike shop on Foch Street. One day she went in and asked if they had baskets. They were so friendly and helpful. She started to save up and finally took her bike in to see if they could fit her with a front basket. Randy "Sully" Sullivan helped her. He meticulously went through her list of needs and looked through pages of a catalog to find just the right one. He ordered it, and within three days it was ready to be installed. In less than two hours, Sully had installed her new basket. It even can be taken off the mount on the front handlebars if she wants to take it in with her at her destination. I would have to say Sully gets the customer satisfaction award from me (which is very hard to do). I have lived and shopped in Fort Worth for 29 years, and he by far has surpassed all others in this department. So, if you have any bike needs, go to Colonel's Bicycles and tell them Graysen sent you.

New Orleans Vacation with Our Bikes

My sister-in-law lives in the French Quarter. She's been begging us to come visit and bring our bikes. Luckily, we have a four door Chevy Silverado pickup. We were reluctant at first, but she convinced us that the French Quarter is very bike friendly. So we loaded up our three bikes in the back of the truck and headed south. We stayed at the Wyndam Garden Hotel (which I would not recommend). Heads definitely turned as we walked through the lobby with our bikes in tow and loaded the elevator. We kept our bikes in our room (just rearranged the desk a little). Our truck stayed in hotel parking for four days. We easily rode from place to place in the Quarter. There were many places to lock them as the architecture provides many balconies that have supports. If you go, take the ferry to Algiers for lunch. Cars pay, but bikes are free on the ferry. Just over the Mississippi River you 'll find a quaint neighborhood. We found a small cafĂ© and had a snack on the patio across from an old church and park. Most of the streets in the French Quarter now have marked bike lanes. It was nice to see so many alternative forms of transportation in such a small area - bikes, horse drawn carriages, street cars and two seating contraptions pulled by a biker. I would highly recommend taking bikes on your next trip to NOLA.

The Modern

We love The Modern. Their bike rack is in the parking lot near the crosswalk that takes you to the Kimbell Art Museum. You can either go down the stairs from the street to the parking lot or ride around to the entrance of the parking lot. Unfortunately, the Kimbell does not have their own bike rack, so if you visit it you will have to lock your bike in The Modern parking lot.

The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History

We love this museum. It is relatively easy to bike to now that Trail Drive has a bike lane. Also, the bike racks are at the entrance to the parking lot. If you lock your bike up here, you will also be close to the Cowgirl Museum.

Figuring Out This Biking Thing

We are definitely new to the whole biking scene. We are amateur bikers living in the Cultural District. Our goal is to learn more about biking and bike more. We will be writing about where to bike, how bike friendly it is, if there are bike racks, etc. This will be like a diary of our experiences biking in Fort Worth. We want to do this to get more exercise and help the environment at the same time.
