My sister-in-law lives in the French Quarter. She's been begging us to come visit and bring our bikes. Luckily, we have a four door Chevy Silverado pickup. We were reluctant at first, but she convinced us that the French Quarter is very bike friendly. So we loaded up our three bikes in the back of the truck and headed south. We stayed at the Wyndam Garden Hotel (which I would not recommend). Heads definitely turned as we walked through the lobby with our bikes in tow and loaded the elevator. We kept our bikes in our room (just rearranged the desk a little). Our truck stayed in hotel parking for four days. We easily rode from place to place in the Quarter. There were many places to lock them as the architecture provides many balconies that have supports. If you go, take the ferry to Algiers for lunch. Cars pay, but bikes are free on the ferry. Just over the Mississippi River you 'll find a quaint neighborhood. We found a small café and had a snack on the patio across from an old church and park. Most of the streets in the French Quarter now have marked bike lanes. It was nice to see so many alternative forms of transportation in such a small area - bikes, horse drawn carriages, street cars and two seating contraptions pulled by a biker. I would highly recommend taking bikes on your next trip to NOLA.
